Chandeliers will be the order of the day in a formal dining room and may add an eclectic touch to more everyday space, but if mixing styles isn’t your thing, consider alternatives. Switch out the chandelier in favor of a more everyday fixture. A light fixture with a metallic shade that looks like it originated from a factory provides an professional feel, while pendant signals created from mason jars give the room a primitive vibe. Overhead lighting isn’t your only choice. Situating floor lamps near the stand illuminates it and the immediate area, and table lamps placed over a sideboard create ambient light.
Place a centerpiece in the center of your table. If you plan to take away the centerpiece at meal time, try to use one with some height and it will make your stand look grander and balance the range in the room. If you're planning on leaving the centerpiece there during meal times, go for a shorter one which means that your seated guests can easily see each other over it.
